There were lots of great entries this year.  Our film was in the second of two screenings at the Hooksett Cinemagic, so I’ve got to do some youtube searching to catch all the films I missed in the first group.  I encourage you to do the same.  Pat a filmmaker on the back.  They worked hard to entertain you for seven minutes between cute kitten videos.

I was told at the beginning of the show the night was closing out with a cover band.  Great.  If you know me, you probably know how I feel about that sort of thing.  Well, maybe it was the free beer I was being fed, but my music snobbery and hostility took a back seat as Breaking Character set up for their set.  I chatted with the guitar player for a bit about amps, pedals, tone stuff.  He’s a great guy and proved to be just as great a guitar player.

They opened with Say It Ain’t So by Weezer, a song I really like (that whole album is great), but with the song’s initial popularity, and the new popularity after its inclusion in Rock Band, it seemed too easy.  Whatever, though, they were playing it well.  As the set went on, though, they kept pulling out songs that were important to me at one point or another, many from around the time I started discovering and seeking out music on my own.  The kind of songs that whether you still like them or not are forever connected to memories or feelings or whatever.  I was singing along from Possum Kingdom on.  They did, however play some Sublime, an act that is never acceptable, but whatever.  I’m not going to let some hack ruin my night from the grave.

The 2011 48 Hour Film Festival starts two weeks from today!  Last year’s entry, Bumpers, won two awards.  Best use of dialogue and best use prop.  How many movies won an award for… wait, you haven’t seen it?  I don’t want to spoil it. Watch it here. The prop is the box. Yeah, we got an award for that. I wonder what we’ll end up killing this time.

As soon as I finish typing this I’ll be heading over to the home of Nat Ward, where we will continue working on sound design for Smudge, a play by Rachel Axler.  You know, writer for The Daily Show and Parks and Recreations (great show).  What’s it about?  Well, a mommy and daddy have a baby, but it doesn’t come out quite right, and the mommy doesn’t really know how to handle it.  Nat and I will sort of be playing the part of the baby.  In a way.  In peoples’ ears.  I guess you’ll have to see it to get it.  It should be quite interesting.

TFD album is almost done, but this isn’t the place for that. This is the place for that.

I spent most of the week in Nashua, playing guitar for 13 The Musical, today being the last show of the first weekend.  Really cool production, and you have four more chances to check it out!

Tonight I finished my scenes in Todd Lajoie’s new move, “Buddy Love”.  It has a hilarious script, fantastic cast, and I can’t wait to get started on the music.  But first… sleep. When I’m not so tired I’ll post pictures and clips from the shoot. Goodnight.

“The Musical of Musicals: The Musical! played to appreciative audiences and hysterical laughter during its run this past weekend. Thanks to everyone who came out to check out the first production by Not Your Mom’s Musical Theater! Particularly one of a kind were the intermission performances by the cast (and chosen by the audience.) Lots of fun was had by all (perhaps the best was Jennifer Mallard singing “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” to everyone in the entire theater!) and new friends and contacts were made as well. Right now it’s WTF with Marc Maron.  The guy is hilarious, angry and brilliant, a combination I love and aspire to.  Angry?  Sure.  Angry is cool, right?  In each episode, Maron interviews fellow comedians, drawing from them and contributing insights to the philosophy of comedy.  And life.  And stuff.  Whatever, man, this shit is good.  If you care about comedy, give WTF a listen.

In other news, Musical of Musicals: The Musical is happening next week at Boynton’s Taproom in good old Manchester.  This cast has won me over, transforming a show I didn’t think was funny into something wonderful.  From the directorial talents of Jamie Feinberg to an amazingly funny, talented cast, something wonderful has happened over the past weeks?  Months?  Time is a funny thing sometimes.  Whatever, this version of the show is very good, I’m running sound and this is merely the beginning of a plethora of unique shows from the twisted minds behind Not Your Mom’s Musical Theater.  Check this stuff out.

Tonight it’s open mic at Milly’s.  Bring a guitar and some original tunes and make people dance.

Todd helped out with the video shoot for “Ghost Song” directed by Mike Place.  The video involves two Rosses, a touch of fake blood, and lots of running through the woods.  I can’t wait to see the final project, but in the meantime, here’s a still from the video:
